International Workshop on Attosecond Science: Challenges for Theoretical Research

Scope of the workshop

The current state-of-the-art attosecond laser technology and charged-particle detection methods may in principle enable us to track and control the ultrafast motion of the electrons and nuclei in atoms, molecules, and more complex materials. However, to realize these goals, we need to know how we can extract essence of the quantum many-body dynamics from the experimental data, and how we should design laser waveforms to control the dynamics utilizing the full potential of the laser technology. We are thus facing the challenge in theoretical research of developing consistent and unifying formalisms as well as accurate and efficient numerical simulation algorithms to describe the electronic and nuclear dynamics.

At this workshop, we would like to bring together active theorists and experimentalists to have intensive discussions on the following topics:

  1. theoretical approaches to understand and control the ultrafast electronic and nuclear dynamics in atoms and molecules;
  2. interesting experimental results which await formal understanding;
  3. newly emerging experimental techniques which may stimulate theoretical proposals of new schemes to investigate attosecond dynamics.
